Couponing for Community 2011- Will You Participate?

Kaley over at  Cha Ching on a Shoestring has once again asked for my participation in Couponing for Community. She was overwhelmed by the fact that we, as couponers, have the ability as well as resources to impact our communities in a major way. We know that each of us may give to charities or friends or people in need at one time or another. But what if we made a united effort? Can you just imagine the outcome?

You might remember that I encouraged your participation last year and held my own “drop off day” at Publix. It was a blast and it was so nice getting to meet some of you.

What are the details?

During the week of May 8th- May14th I would like you to “Coupon for Community“. The goal is to give a portion of your stockpile (may it be big or small) away to a local food bank, homeless shelter, or even a friend in need. Its a very simple and small way that we can all make a united effort for a big impact! If you do not have a stockpile, no need to worry. You can still participate. Consider finding items this week that are very cheap and not much out of pocket to purchase even if you normally wouldn’t. They might be just what a homeless shelter or food bank needs.

On top of THAT- National Stamp Out Hunger Day falls on May 14th this year and they are working in partnership with us- how awesome is that? To participate in National Stamp Out Hunger day, you simply leave a bag of non-perishable items by your mailbox for your mail carrier to pick up and take to the local food bank! Simple enough huh?

What is the goal?

This year we are setting a goal of 10,000 items to be donated in a weeks time. We encourage you to keep up with your donations with a total and we will be tallying them on a giving tracker. Take pictures and share your giving story on the facebook page.

Greenhouse Ministries

What can local readers do?

If you are in the Middle Tennessee area, I along with Tshanina from Thrifty T’s Treasures are planning a donation event for Greenhouse Ministries in Murfreesboro, a mission that specializes in all aspects of helping out those in need. They are in need right now of items such as boxed meals, rice, canned foods, feminine products, deodorant, razors, shampoo/conditioner and more. Any little bit that we can give is much appreciate there. If you would like to join me in giving to Greenhouse Ministries, here are the tentative details:

  • When: May 14th
  • Where: We are still working on this, but are pretty sure that it will be around the Murfreesboro area.
  • Time: 10:00am- Noon

Simply bring your stockpile items that day and we’ll create the biggest stockpile that we can collect. Let’s show the world that we CAN impact our community and make a difference. And while we’re at it, maybe we can encourage others to donate along with us! I hope that this will be a great opportunity to meet you guys and share in the happiness that coupons can bring :) You are welcome to come anytime in the time period. AND- for those that do come by, we’re going to giveaways once again!

P.S.- if you’re interested in helping out at this event, please email me amy (at) savingwithamy (dot) com! I could always use help as I’ll be really pregnant :)

What can national readers do?

Just because you don’t live close doesn’t mean that I don’t want you to participate! YOU can still make a difference. I encourage you to donate a portion of your stockpile any time between the dates of May 8th and May 14th. Kaley has made a Couponing for Community facebook fan page, so head over and “like” it! We would love for you to drop by and upload a picture of the goods that you donated. This will be a great and fast way for us to see the impact that we can have when working as a community. This will also be a great place to make comments, ask questions, get ideas, etc.

I am SO excited about this and I cannot WAIT to see what we as a coupon community can do! I already know that you all are incredible at what you do and together we can be even BETTER!

I will be reminding you along the way and posting deals that I think would make great donations as well. Please feel free to leave a comment or email me with any questions.

I’ve got a pretty good sized donation box going already and I’ll be going through my pantry to donate a lot of what I’ve stocked up on…we really can make a difference…and isn’t that a wonderful thing?

Thanks Amy-I bring a few boxes of donations to the local food bank twice a month with a friend. My box right now is a little low so any ideas you have to post would be great.
