We have made it safely to the UK and are really enjoying the weather here! Going from about 98 degrees to only 58 is a HUGE change and almost feels freezing! Its a really good thing that I packed a lot of my winter clothes. It has rained one day so far and its just beautiful today!
Because my husband is working most of the day, I’ve been able to venture out a lot on my own and do as I please. Each day so far I’ve gone to the Leeds City Markets which is an open air type flea market with all kinds of things for sale. The currency rate is not that wonderful so things seem to be cheaper here, but technically they are not. 1 pound is equivalent to $1.66 USD so we get the short end of the stick. However, I did find my hubby a polo shirt today at the city markets for only 1 pound which is still only $1.66 so that is really good!
I just love to hear everyone talk here. I keep telling everyone I talk to, that its like being in the Mary Poppins movie. With people saying “cheers” instead of bye and calling restrooms “the lou”. It takes some getting used to, to understand them because they talk so fast.
The cars driving down the wrong side of the road is something that I just don’t think I’ll ever get used to. Even just walking down the street you have to think twice before crossing the road because you forget which side the car could come speeding down.
We have been eating a lot! You just can’t pass up the fish ‘n chips or pork pies here. But with all the walking we’re doing, I think we’ll be ok. I have been walking everywhere since I got here.
I have even found a couple thrift stores here and that has been fun. More updates to come!
