My $5 Walmart Challenge: 93.9% Savings

The other day I received one of those FREE $5 Walmart gift cards in the mail. Walmarts all over the country are giving these out, so you’ll want to watch your mailbox. They are for specified locations, so you’ll need to make sure and use them at that location.

I took this card as a challenge. Since I do Walmart matchups, as you can imagine I’m pretty aware of all the cheap and free items. So I headed into my local store and walked out with amazing savings!

What I got:

20 Mighty Dog Canned Food $.57 each
- Used the $3/5- Final Price= FREE
1 Glade Sense and Spray $5.00
- Used the $4/1- Final Price= $1.00
1 KC Masterpiece BBQ Sauce $1.42
- Used the $1/1- Final Price= $.42
2 Schick Disposable Razors $1.97 each
- Used the $2/1- Final Price= FREE
2 Bic Cristal Pens $1.00
- Used the $1/1- Final Price= FREE
2 Benadryl Itch Relief Sticks $2.28
- Used the $5/2- Final Price= FREE
2 NexCare Bandages $.96
- Used the $1/1- Final Price= FREE

Total Savings: $30.00
Total OOP: $1.92

My subtotal was -$.90! That brought me to total savings of 93.9%!

The best part? I have $3.08 LEFT of my little shopping card!

Wow! That is awesome! When I grow up I want to be just like you! :) I am gonna give this a try tomorrow. I don’t really shop at Walmart that much. But you inspire me!

How do you get a gift card? Do you have to apply for it somehow? I’ve never heard of this before.

Hi Wendy! It was honestly just a random occurrence. Although this weekend my mother-in-law told me that she had gotten one as well. And another friend of my in a nearby city also gotten one. I’m thinking that they are sending them out all over. Not sure if you have to be signed up for their email alerts or what.
