New Book Giveaway- Get Financially Naked

I was recently approached to check out a new book Get Financially Naked: How to Talk Money to Your Honey. Of course it caught my attention because we all know that talking money is never an easy thing to do. It can be a stigma in a relationship, but it doesn’t HAVE to be. Authors Manisha Thakor and Sharon Kedar are personal finance experts that have been featured in Business Week, Glamour, Women’s Day, and NBC Nightly News.

This book contained great advice and insights on where to even begin when dealing with finances. From saving to spending and everything in between. Inside were many different spots to fill in your current ideas and thoughts on certain subjects, making this like a workbook. You can compare yours and your honey’s financial beliefs to see where you share the same ideas or where your differ. You’ll learn how to approach the subject of money without ending your marriage.

One thing I really liked about this book was that I didn’t feel like an idiot when reading it. It was clear and easy to read and I could tell the authors were down to earth. I really enjoyed their approach to a subject that is so often such a sore spot for conversation. The authors provide a Keep It Simple Stupid philosophy for making a plan and sticking to it!

it sounds awful but when he’s had a glass of wine and feeling relaxed is the best time to bring up this subject. When either one of us is stressed we react differently. Not always as calm. I’m a FB fan & a twitter fan. I’ll go and subscribe to your list.

My tip would be to approach the topic in the most non-confrontational way possible. To really make the discussion about “us”, “our” finances, “we” etc.
I think the more you make it about the both of you, and try to come up with ideas, plans together, and really listen and take into account the other person’s ideas and suggestions, the better.

The best time for me to talk money to my honey is in the car because then he can’t avoid me. I can tell him everything I need to about it and he has no where to go. I know so mean! LOL

I’m also a fan on facebook and I get your emails!

I like to talk to him after he has been on a grocery run with me, especially if it was a good one with savings and coupons. He seems to need that little reminder that even working full time and taking care of our 2 beautiful girls (3 and 10 months) I still find time to try to save our family a few extra dollars.

I try to do it at night, seems that we’re most relaxed then after a long day’s work. Try to stay calm and don’t play the blame game if there is a problem with bills and money matching up. Ask for suggestions.

We don’t talk much about money, I handle or mishandle it all.

my advice would be to lay everything out there. my honey and i are a young couple and we kept our money seperate but after 2 kids and a stressful economy we realized it was only causing us problems. we are now honest about our spending and combine our money and bills and we are learning to get through this together as a couple.

I am a facebook follower, twitter follower and an email subscriber.

For my husband and I it’s just about being up front and honest about our money and with our budget etc. We both make sacrifices to make everything work.

This is a great giveaway, I love new reads!

I am also a follower with google reader.
