Coupons 101: The Basics

The first thing I would say you need to know when starting to use coupons is that they can and WILL save you money. Everything else you learn along the way.

Here’s some tips to start you off:

1) Get a Sunday paper! This is where the majority of coupons come from. I get mine at Kroger on Mondays because they sell them for only a $1. I usually get 3 or 4.
2) You dont always have to cut out every coupon. I only cut out the ones that I KNOW Im going to use soon.
3) Organize your coupons in way thats easy for you to get to them. I started by alphabetizing mine. I now use a coupon binder to keep them organized, but do whatever works best for you.
4) Learn your local grocery store’s coupon policy. I keep a copy of mine in my binder so that theres no wondering about things.

Coupon Doubling
This is when a store will double a coupon to a certain cent amount. For instance if a store doubles coupons to $.50, this means if you brings a save $.50 when you buy one 2L coke, then they will double the $.50 to $1. If you have a coupon that states save $.55 when you buy a 2L coke, it will NOT double.

Grocery Stores:

Kroger
The Kroger near me, doubles coupons up to $.50 everyday with no limit. This is automatic and doesnt require your request. Just hand over your $.50 coupon and viola! Kroger also in some areas takes competitor’s coupons, you will need to ask your nearby Kroger who they take.

Walmart
Walmart is usually miserable to shop at with coupons, BUT their prices tend to be lower and with rollbacks they can sometimes have amazing deals! They do not double coupons but only take them at face value.

Publix
Most Publix double coupons up to $.50 everyday. They also take competitors coupons. The 2 Publix in Smyrna take competitors coupons from Target (supertarget), Kroger, and Foodlion.

Tip*
At most stores, you can use 1 Manufacturer coupon and 1 Store coupon for one item! Ive never encountered a store that did not take both at once.
